James and the Giant Peach?

"In terms of its genre and appeal, "The Secret Spiral" is close to "James and the Giant Peach": a little bit of science, a whole lot of imagination and a good bit of style."

A five-star review from Lisa Petrison, PhD, on Amazon and Goodreads.

"The Secret Spiral" is a whimsical, creative and quirky story about an eventful day in the life of Flor Bernoulli, a 10-year-old from Brooklyn Heights, NY."

Two More Four Star Reviews on Goodreads...

Now that my first tween novel is out, I find myself focussing more on Goodreads than Amazon. Goodreads feels a bit like the Facebook of the literary world. More intimate, as social networking sites always are, with the ability to go see what else a fan or author is reading. I wonder if other authors feel as happy as I do when they get a glowing review on Goodreads from a perfect stranger? Goodreads seems more active than Amazon at this point, too. Of course, Amazon has been a complete game changer for the book industry, and now that they are going to act as publishers as well, it will be very interesting times.

One recent 4 star review came from Goodreads giveaway winner, Aimee McGill. The other from a gal named Katie. Made my day!

Can we change and grow through Life, and yet stay the same deep inside?

A great review in from author Michael Hutchison!

"When Flor asks Dr. Pi how he can look into the future around the curve of time, he explains to her that he is in charge of The Spiral, which is unique because "It gets bigger and bigger without changing its shape at all. Do you know anything else that can do that?" He reveals to Flor that she too has a very special relationship to The Spiral. The wise Dr. Pi translates and explains "that we are all like the Spiral. Though we change and grow and learn through life, something deep in us remains the same. Just like the Spiral, which gets bigger and bigger, but never changes its proportions. And so, we too are always changed, and ever the same." This is truly a life transforming message, and I applaud the author for making it so visible annndunderstandable to young readers. The narrative is clever and full of constant surprises and adventures. It's an exciting book to read and I recommend it highly..."

You Don't Have to Know About Math...

A few kinds words in the July 4 review from Crowding the Book Truck:

"I don't think you have to know a lot about the math behind it to follow the plot, which is good...I think I would have enjoyed the premise as a child and I think there are kids that it will appeal to. The book ends with a sharp cliffhanger...look for a second book to build on this one."
